Working from home - do you have what it takes?
According to a recent Harris poll, 72% of American households are thinking about starting a small business, home based.
Will all of these budding entrepreneurs have what it takes? There are some key questions that need to be answered. It is essential that the motivation is positive.
Which business is right for you? Do you have a real idea of what you want your business to be or are you just seeking a business working from home as an escape from employment?
A vital question which needs a positive response.
Are you going to try something you like or know?
Capitalise on your natural talents! You are going to use your talents and experience so wherever possible stay with what you know. You will know more than you think!
How about these business ideas?
Working from home on contract with you previous employer(s). Go on to cultivate new clients using your skills. Acquire additional skills and market them to existing and new clients. Bingo you’ve got your small business and you are working from home.
Use your home PC as a profit generator. You can do this part time, acquire new skills and reach your target market. Hard copy or electronically. The potential for e-commerce is only now starting to be recognised and the market is huge and growing.
Create a business around a;
Craft, say woodworking, there is great market for traditional rocking horses and they sell at premium prices. This suggestion is to illustrate the point.
Hobby, flower arranging, Yes there are businesses doing well at this which many women consider to be a hobby/interest..
Vocation, A local un-happily employed superb model maker, e.g. scale models of steam locomotives, has all of the necessary equipment to offer a range of specialist manufacturing services to local businesses and individuals. Despite his employment situation he will not go it alone - nor should he if it’s not right for him. This illustrates a couple of key points.
Profession. If you are an employed professional what is it? Can you offer products or services? Yes if you think about it and you want to.
These are just a few suggestions, try giving it some thought the rewards can be terrific.
