4 Basic Elements To Any Successful Home Based Business

Have you tried all kinds of home-based businesses, work from home income opportunities, or even a traditional small business with little to no real results? Do you want to become successful, achieve financial freedom, and see your dreams come true? Do you think there’s a secret to wealth that the wealthy are hiding from you? So many millions of people have lost all hope in their dreams because they just can’t seem to get that lucky break. Have you asked yourself why doesn’t it work for me?

I used to be like that. Everything I tried I failed at – at least it seemed that way! I became a frustrated, angry person and nobody wants that kind of negative energy around. The biggest problem was that I couldn’t see it myself. I kept blaming everything else, including God, for my circumstances. It wasn’t until a gal I knew placed a personal development book in front of me and said, “Here, read this”. That book was the starting point of a major transformation of myself.

In the months that followed, I began to devour self-help and personal development books. I spent tons of money on books and seminars (called investment spending) and it was well worth it! Each step I took opened new doors, providing me with mental, physical, emotional and spiritual growth. As I grew personally, so did my success in business and in life. Along that road, I discovered me. Now I am in the process of becoming the best me, and it feels great!

In this article, I will cover 4 basic elements – starter points – to assist you on your road to success.

Number One: Success starts with taking personal responsibility for your choices. Whoa! Slow down here! Think about this. Every day we make millions of choices – from what clothes to wear, to the food we eat, to the job we go to, to the…you get the point. Albert Einstein said, “The significant problems we face will not be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.” That’s powerful. How do you change your thinking? Well, you can start by reading books in the self-help section of the bookstore or library! I recommend “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy.

Number Two: Believe in your dream! What did you want to be when you were a kid and the whole world of opportunity was before you – before anyone started putting his or her limiting beliefs upon you? Believe that you can achieve whatever it is you’re dreaming of, regardless of your circumstances! In order to believe in your dream, you have to believe in yourself. This is huge, and there are books out there devoted just to this topic alone. You deserve to believe in yourself! The greatest crime in the world is giving up on you. The greatest joy in the world is feeling fulfilled and accomplishing what you were created and destined to fulfill. Contemplate for a moment how intricate the system of your body, your mind, and your emotions. You are an amazing creation! Intelligence far beyond our current capacity to comprehend created you. You have a purpose – a destiny! The great game of life is to discover that purpose and to take creative, enjoyable actions to make that purpose a reality. Once you get over this hurdle – of believing in yourself and in your dream, you are almost there!

Number Three: Support yourself with evidence. There are literally millions of examples of success, everywhere. Oprah, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Lance Armstrong, Martin Luther King. The list goes on and on and on. Movies are a great medium for inspiration – Cinderella Man, Seabiscuit, yes, even The Lord Of The Rings! Stories of tragedy and triumph, of real people and fictional characters who persist without exception and create victory in the face of defeat. One of my favorite examples of success - when everyone else said it couldn’t be done - is the breaking of the 4-minute mile by Roger Bannister on May 6, 1954. According to Wikipedia, “It was once thought by some to be impossible but has now been achieved by many male athletes, and is now the standard of all professional middle distance runners. In the last 50 years the 4 minute barrier has been lowered by almost 17 seconds.”

Is someone telling you your dreams can’t come true? How bad do you want your dream? Your library will have biographies of successful people. Another source for evidence is discovering and celebrating your own successes. We call it “celebrating your wins”. Every night, write down in a “success journal” 5 ways you were successful today. It can be as simple as “today I flossed my teeth”. You see, you ARE successful! After a week of celebrating your wins, you’ll have you’re your own evidence of experience with success! What a great way to get inspired!

Number Four: Take one step at a time. There’s an old Christmas song in the movie “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer”. The lyrics go like this: “Put one foot in front of the other, and soon you’ll be walking across the floor…put one foot in front of the other, and soon you’ll be walking out the door”. Very few people experience overnight success. “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Give yourself time, and take small steps every day. In the story of the race of the Tortoise and the Hare, the Tortoise won by consistent, persistent, committed action, one step at a time.

Nobody is hiding any secret to success. There is no such thing as a “lucky break”. These four elements are foundational. There is not a single successful person who had not mastered all four of these elements. Without these you will continue to fail. But you are not a failure until you stop trying. My ski coach said to me, “If you’re not falling down, you’re not trying hard enough.” If you don’t like to “fall down”, then enjoy what your doing now, you’ll probably be doing it forever!

In conclusion, get thee to the bookstore, the library, the seminars, and even the movie rental places (choose the inspirational movies), go out and meet people you admire and ask questions, go buy a journal (a book with blank pages) and write out your dreams. Take personal responsibility for your choices, believe in yourself and in your dream, support yourself with evidence and take one step at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be leaping out the door into your own “promised land” of success. Enjoy it!
